Hachijojima's scuba diving is unsurpassed in Japan.
Hachijo is located in a warm current called the "Kuroshio"or
"Black Current" running from Indonesia up to Northern
Japan. This makes it possible to see the same sea life
as in Okinawa, Ogasawara, The Phillipines, and The Marianas
islands as well as endemic species of fish. With water
temperature highs of 28°C and lows of 17°C it's
often warmer in the water during those colder months!
Hachijo has many dive points, one of these called "Nazumado"
is rated in the top five dive spots in Japan. Both
boat and beach dives are available.
Divers should remember that diving and
flying on the same day is dangerous and therefore not
advised. If swimming or snorkelling be warned the currents
are swift!
