This is the cheapest and healthiest way to get around
on Hachijo. Many and varied are the trails here. Hachijo
hiking trails range in difficulty and length from short
and easy hikes to cross mountain trekking. Hiking trail
maps can be picked up from the tourist information centre.
Cycling off road is not reccommended as this is a National
Park but the mountainous back roads are exciting enough,
and you are never too far from a place to swim. Rental
bikes are available but probably without gears! Both
ferry and flight services have a minimal surcharge for
bicycles.
Hachijo :: Mt. Fuji Trails
Hachijo :: Cycling
Hachijojima's Mt. Fuji is only 854 metres high but commands
breathtaking 360° degree views on its rim trail walk.
On clear days it's possible to see nearby Miyake Island.
Cycling
Hachijo's mountains can be strenuous but the downhill
legs make it worth it. If flat is what you're looking
for the botanical gardens are for you. A great place
to explore by bicycle or on foot.

Hachijo :: Aloe Vera Fields
A
cluster of undulating hills and mountains make up this
end of the island. Various waterfalls and valleys scattered
around keeps every trail different and individual.
Fields
of Aloe Vera can be seen around the island. You're never
short of sunburn cream!
